As the most anticipated boxing event of the year draws near in Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel Cotto, the build up hasn’t been without controversy. Creating the most buzz at this moment in time is the dismissal from Cotto’s training camp of Francisco “El Gato” Figueroa. Upon being relieved of his duties as Pseudo-Pac, Gato took the highroad claiming to be unaware of the reason why he was let go, stating simply that he did his job and would be returning home to prepare for his next bout. That was last week.
This weekend news broke by way of a Spanish language news source that Cotto had let Figueroa go for his conduct as a sparring partner, and his lack of hard work. Gato of course felt bound to let “what happens in sparring stay in sparring,” but that was before Cotto broke “omerta.” There are two sides to every story, and tonight Gato follows up on the news that broke on FightHype Saturday, which revealed some of the particulars of the situation according to Figueroa himself. Gato gives the inside word to the OnThEGRiND BOXiNG Family and FightHype readers listening world wide, as he readies himself for his November 4th appearance on ESPN2’s Special Wednesday Night Fights card.
